Hi, I’m Rachel.
At 19, I was sick — really sick. I’d been battling arthritis, depression, ovarian cysts, and stage 2 colon cancer. My body was breaking down, and I needed a way to heal.
But nothing shocked me more than discovering that the very products I was using to feel beautiful — so I could fit in, feel confident, maybe even get a boyfriend as a teen — were filled with ingredients contributing to me being so incredibly sick.
The body care industry was one of the most toxic out there.
It's loaded with carcinogens and hormone disruptors that other countries had outright banned!
Desperate for a solution, I changed what I put on my skin along with many other natural treatments. At first, I started making my own soap just for me — never thinking it would turn into a business.
But as my health improved, I knew I had to help others reduce their toxic burden too.
So in 1999, Blue Moon Elise was born.

Where is your soap made?
We make all BMe Soaps right here in our studio from scratch in Murphy, NC for the last 26 years :)
What makes Blue Moon Elise soaps different from regular store-bought soaps?
Our soaps are handcrafted using the cold-process method, infused with 100% pure essential oils, and superfatted with extra conditioning oils for superior moisture. Unlike commercial soaps that use toxic detergents and harmful fragrances, our soaps are plant-based, toxin-free, and safe for even the most sensitive skin.
Will your soap help with my dry or itchy skin?
Absolutely! Our soaps are specially formulated to soothe dry, itchy skin and support conditions like eczema and psoriasis. The superfatted oils provide extra moisture, while the absence of synthetic ingredients ensures gentle care for your skin.
What does “superfatted” mean?
Superfatting is the process of adding extra oils during soap-making to ensure your skin stays soft, hydrated, and never stripped dry. We superfat our soap at the maximum level possible — 6%. This is the perfect balance to deeply nourish your skin without making the soap goopy, melt too fast, or lose its shelf life. Any more than this, and the soap would turn soft and wash away too quickly. So, when you lather up with BMe soap, you’re getting the absolute highest amount of skin-loving moisture that soap can hold —without sacrificing quality or longevity.
How long do your soaps last?
Our soaps are cured for six weeks to ensure a longer-lasting bar compared to many other handmade soaps. To extend its life, we recommend placing your soap in a dry dish between uses. Our customers report that their bar last anywhere between 1-2 months.
Do your soaps contain synthetic fragrances?
No, we only use pure essential oils for fragrance—never synthetic fragrances. Synthetic fragrances are petroleum-based, can cause dryness and irritation, and are loaded with carcinogens and known endocrine disruptors wreaking havoc on your hormones! Our mission is to provide safe, nourishing skincare without toxins.
Are your soaps safe for septic systems?
Yes, our soaps are completely safe for septic systems. Unlike commercial soaps that contain detergents, our plant-based formula prevents overgrowth in septic tanks, making it an eco-friendly choice.
Are your soaps cruelty-free?
Yes! All of our products are 100% cruelty-free. We never test on animals, and our ingredients are ethically sourced to ensure kindness to both animals and the planet. Even our Palm Oil is sourced from certified harvesters ensuring the home of orangutans are not harmed because this has been a big deal with this oil since it's so highly used.
